The Clinton County Foundation provides several options for you to give back to the community and achieve your charitable goals. As a nationally accredited, locally dedicated community foundation, we have the expertise to connect your generosity with the county’s greatest needs.

Types of Gifts

The Clinton County Foundation provides a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to giving. Whichever charitable vehicle works best for you, we have the experience and resources to preserve and grow your philanthropic contributions at any scale.

Donating Cash

A gift of cash is the most popular way to give because of its simplicity. A cash gift of any size is always welcome. You may donate online by credit card or you can mail a check to our lockbox at this address:

Appreciated Stock

One of the most effective ways to make a philanthropic gift is to donate stock. This enables you to receive a tax deduction for its full market value, thus reducing capital gains tax on appreciated stock.

Life Insurance

Name the Clinton County Foundation, or other qualified nonprofits, as owner of a paid-up life insurance policy. You will receive a tax deduction and gift credit based on the current value of the policy.

Bequest By Will

Transfer an asset you own through a written will to benefit the Clinton County Foundation or a specified nonprofit. Here is our sample bequest language to help guide your plan.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Use many different assets to establish trusts that will benefit you and your heirs for life or for a specified period of time. The remaining interest in the trust can be designated for the Foundation. These trusts provide significant tax benefits for you.

Charitable Lead Trust

The reverse of a charitable remainder trust, a charitable lead trust is designed to provide financial support to one or more charities for a period of time, with the remaining assets eventually going to family members or other beneficiaries.

Charitable Gift Annuity

Transfer cash or marketable securities to the Clinton County Foundation for the ultimate benefit of a qualified nonprofit. In return, you receive current income tax deductions and fixed annual payments for life.

IRA Assets

Many investors realize that upon their death, unused IRA assets may be heavily taxed. Naming a tax-exempt charity like the Clinton County Foundation will help manage taxes on unspent retirement assets.

Gifts of Grain

When agricultural producers transfer legal ownership of grain to the Foundation before the commodity is sold, they may avoid paying taxes on the income from the sale. However, they are still able to deduct the entire cost of production on their Schedule F tax return. Savings may be realized on federal as well as self-employment tax. Consult your tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

Families like the Tolliver Curtis family celebrate their agricultural heritage by ensuring high school seniors who are intending a career in agriculture have the financial means to succeed. Every year at the Corn Festival, Tolliver Family Apple Butter is sold to support the Tolliver Family Scholarship Fund. The family has raised more than $50,000 for scholarships and awards two scholarships to Clinton County students.

“Thank you so much for providing books for my grandchildren through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We enjoy reading together. Every book has been a great selection, and very appropriate for their ages.”
